Each week is action-packed with fresh ideas and amusements. Our themes will vary from week to week with adventures like little Pirates and Animal Safari’s to Magic Gardens and everything in between.
Our class routine, however, will always flow and follow the same format. Our Toddler Sense class runs for 1 hour which is divided into two balanced phases. We do this to support the toddlers in their preparation for school by getting them familiar with regular structure.
Phase 1: Adventure Area
To help toddlers settle into class and burn off some energy, we begin each session in the Adventure Area. The little ones have a fun time playing as they develop gross motor skills such as strength, balance, climbing and coordination. This is also a great opportunity for our adults to connect and catch up with one another.
After approximately 20 minutes we start to wind down the adventure time and we encourage the toddlers to help us tidy away the equipment. This not only reduces distractions during the next phase of the session but this helps set a precedent for pack up after playtime at home.
Phase 2: Structured Play
Our structured activities are all about laying down the steppingstones for pre-Kindy and this part of the session will run for 30-35 minutes.
During this time, toddlers are encouraged to come forward and collect their own equipment and then to return it once they are done. Our activities promote turn-taking, listening skills, following instructions, sharing and interaction through asking questions. We also use the opportunity to introduce concepts such as shapes, size, direction and opposites and a little further down the track, we delve into letter formations too.
Toddlers can look forward to a wonderfully diverse time of exploration, all while contributing to their global development.
